Trapped

Horatio cannot be found. He is not in his room in the attic. She can find him no where in Cardiff. There are a great many similarities that he shares with Jack. Both are missing. Both told her why they were leaving and when they would be back. Both were not returning when they said they would. Jack has been gone for four months. Horatio has been gone for a week.

She does not immediately panic. It is well within reason for their missions to be taking longer than expected. It is easy to assume that perhaps Horatio could not immediately find Ianto. He might be having problems in the Nexus finding help. There is no reason to immediately panic but then the hours turn into days. The days turn into a week and Kate starts to get worried.

Kate walks up the front set of stairs to her bedroom on the second floor. The door is pushed open and she walks over to her small desk. One of the drawers is opened and Kate removes her PINpoint. The simple fact of the matter is, Horatio should be back by now. There is no reason for him not to be unless something has gone wrong. She is not content to sit and wait any longer.

The coordinates for the Nexus are punched in first and she hits the activate button. Nothing happens and believing that she got the coordinates wrong, she tries another one, this time for the school. As with her first attempt, nothing happens. A third location is tried, her apartment in New York and then a fourth and a fifth. When she is not immediately transported, she feels a sick knot of anxiety settle in her stomach. Something is definitely wrong.

Realization soon dawns on her face as she tries to use the PINpoints secondary functions. She can’t leave. She’s trapped, both Ears and herself. The PINpoint drops from her hand and Kate manages to make it to her bed before she sits, or rather drops to a seated position. Thousands of thoughts run rampant inside her mind.

She’s trapped in a world that she knows little about except for what Jack has told her. She is alone, very alone. There are no friends except for Ears, certainly no one capable of providing her any kind of support. Kate runs her hands over her face and then smooths back her hair. What is she going to do?

Kate sits there for a long while, agonizing over what she is going to do. It would be easy to give into panic and let fear take hold but there are several reasons she cannot do that. She has to be strong. She has to keep it all together. Ears does not need to see her in this state. Kate also has a baby to think about. She is not the first woman to give birth alone nor will she be the last.

She stands and heads out of her bedroom. It would be business as usual, yet again. Still, as she walks down the hallway, she can’t quite shake the feeling of being left all alone.
