This is one of hundreds of fountains in Kansas City--in fact it is often called the City of Fountains. When I used to live there, I visited the J.C.Nichols Fountain on the Plaza often--it's a great place for candlelight vigils.
I had an assignment to sketch KC--and although this fountain is almost TOO popular (tourists, weddings, models, you name it, the horse fountain makes a great backdrop!), it's one of my favorites.
In order to capture that lively, sparkling fountain, I used a lot more techniques than I usually do in my journal (on the opposite page you can see a bit of one of my more normal pages--a fairly straight watercolor, with an ink sketch of a young deer, and notes).
If you like, click on the image to take you to my Flickr album, where I added for notes that explain the techniques.
