#10 Letter from Dame Meridith Partwaste to Dame Eleanor Basoomy
Dear Ellie,
Well, that was a journey I would prefer not to repeat. I have never been so cold in my life! I swear not one inn had any kind of decent heating. Thank goodness the servants who had gone ahead had the foresight to ensure that everything here was in good order.
I hate to tell you this when you are so looking forward to your Cathy's wedding to our Cecil, but... Oh, there is no way to say this in a decorous fashion. Alistair caught him in the broom closet with one of the servants. One of the boys! The shame of it! I fear the wedding will have to be called off.
Alistair is raging, vowing to send Cecil to one of those purifying orders, you know, the ones that do the poker thing, Cecil's claiming he wouldn't dare what with him being our only child, and the gossip! Oh, Ellie, I don't know what to do! Please tell me there's some way to salvage this horrible mess. I feel like it's my fault Cecil has turned out to be so... wrong. He was so terribly frail as a child. I'm sure I smothered him or something.
Sadly,
Merry
christmas
