1. Letter from Lady Alicia Whenchforth to her mother
Dearest Mama,
Everything is lovely here, really. I know it seems strange not to be at home for Christmas, but it would be such a waste to send the carriage when you will be back here for Court in a little more than a month. The snow makes the city really beautiful, and it's nice and cozy here at school.
Yes, Dame Cecilia looks after us all properly. I don't know where you're hearing such horrible stories, Mama. There's nothing to them at all.
I bought gifts for everyone at the High Square Market last free day. I'm sending them with this letter, so if they don't arrive, something went wrong with the Royal Courier Service.
I must go, someone is calling me.
