I am perpetually frustrated in my efforts to find software that will let me see the galaxy in 3D, so that I can work out how far apart various stars are and where they are in relation to the sun. I have various freeware and shareware programs that do a half-assed job of it, and plenty of GIFs etc of local space, but all I want is a *(&)^)*&^ rotable map of the galaxy.
So, on the recommendation of those who know, I'm trying to get hold of the astronomy program Starry Night - who seem absolutely determined not to have my business. No downloadable demo; no demo on the Web site - I had to go to YouTube to see the program in action; no download available outside the US; and a shipping fee of $US36 to Australia, which is almost as much as the software itself. I wondered why I hadn't already bought the damn thing, and now I know why.
ETA: Oh thank fuck for Ebay!
