Two lies told by writers, in particular, Doctor Who writers:

1. I don't do this for the money.

Unless the writer in question is independently wealthy, or already rakes in so many dead prez that slumming in Whoville is a paycut, this is a big fib. It's the Benjamins that make it possible to write the books, and even the short stories and stuff. I ( Read more... )

(Um sorry.)

Not that I believe you. You may be at a point were writing DW novels may well be the most profitable expenditure of your time, but I don't think you got that way with your eyes on the bottom line. And sure, financial considerations have a great impact on the amount of time you are able to spend writing now, but I don't think in your case I don't think they'd dictate whether you wrote at all.

It's true that if money were the sole motive for writing, I'd be penning Blood Sword of the Elf Stone, first book in the Ormaniad.
