Unless the writer in question is independently wealthy, or already rakes in so many dead prez that slumming in Whoville is a paycut, this is a big fib. It's the Benjamins that make it possible to write the books, and even the short stories and stuff. I

Not that I believe you. You may be at a point were writing DW novels may well be the most profitable expenditure of your time, but I don't think you got that way with your eyes on the bottom line. And sure, financial considerations have a great impact on the amount of time you are able to spend writing now, but I don't think in your case I don't think they'd dictate whether you wrote at all.
