Completely forgot to plug this! The crisply-edited and entertaining Doctor Who podcast Bridging the Rift had me on as a guest. I had an absolute ball, and I loquaced like no one has loquaced before.
...and yet completely different to the one I imagined?
I was doing three things at one, as usual, and so missed the introductions, and kind of assumed Kate was going to be dialled into the discussion at a break-point or something, until she mentioned Jon and I thought "waitaminit... *THAT'S* Kate?!?" =:o}
Great discussion though, lots of wise and on-the-nose points raised, and especially *YAY* for giving props to the poor unmentioned script editors. I would *love* to hear a panel where old series and new series script editors get to compare experiences. ( Helen Raynor: "I *did* too edit Russel's scripts, Mr Bighdmead!" CHB: "Well you didn't do a very good job then, did you?". LOLarity ensues. =:o} )
Another person who I think doesn't get credited with as much agency in the shaping of NuWho as she must actually have is Julie: She clearly loves and champions the Doctor/companion romance themes, for example. That's not to say she's got Russel's arm up behind his back saying "you *will* pack the show with UST!", with poor Rusty trying to plead the case for the asexual Doctor, but if you know your co-Exec-Prod loves one kind of storyline and hates another kind, that's bound to affect what you choose to write!
Julie's so great on the commentaries. "I was ruined." Love the bit where RTD's saying we don't know that the Doctor was going to say "Rose Tyler - I love you" and she's insisting that he was!
