playtime

what are you supposed to do with a baby when she's awake? she used to sleep through most of the daytime, and now that she's a month old now she's up for the entire afternoon!! russell keeps telling me to "teach" her things when she's awake. he'll be like, oh, work on her motor skills, hand eye coordination, problem solving skills, etc etc.

i find it kind of difficult to "chat" with her. russell's good at that. from the time she was like a week old he'd be talking to her at 2 in the morning about "life". and for the most part she really enjoys listening to him talk. she'll look at him like she actually understands. i think one of the first conversations i heard him have with her was about "gratitude". i thought that was really cute.

my conversations with her sound more like, "hunno baybay emily, baybay want some milky?" yes, very adult. no wonder i'm starting to feel removed from the world around me. i swear, if i didn't have the ladies on the view, ellen and oprah to keep me company all day i'd go crazy. oh and also martha, rachel and judge milian. sometimes regis and kelly, steven and chris, dr.phil and tyra make it in the mix as well.

but back to my original question. what activities can i incorporate into baby's playtime? today i switched the tv onto the treehouse channel and sat her on my lap to watch. i turned it off after about 15 minutes cuz i didn't think putting her infront of a screen too often was good for her. sometimes we sing and dance. sometimes i put her on her playmat or her playpen so that she can look at her toys. but really i haven't found anything truly "interactive" to do with her yet. any suggestions would be great.
