I like this work. I encountered it a couple of years ago and it was good to see it again now and remember what I thought about it.
It's obvious that it expresses something about the relationship between man and technology. personally I think it does a great job at revealing the idea of technology as a part of the human body as opposed to something used by it. I think it shows a notion of artificial intelligence, making it known that there is a paradigm shift taking place in the western world which is somewhat scary. I think it's suggesting that we as humans will soon cease to be the superior intelligence and in that suggestion envisaging a future in which the human body and technology co-exists. With such a massive suggestion it's hard not to consider the political and ethical explosion that this would most definately cause but I guess that's a whole different topic.
Most interesting though is how Swallow manages to evoke thoughts of cyborgs, bio-technic machines and ultimately ethics and values in a responder, it's almost a very dangerous piece of work, but it appears so innocent!
