Hank Finds Inspiration
by Craig Frazier
I came across this book while searching for picklist books in the children's area, and I just had to read it. The title jumped out at me because I'm a nerdfighter and thought "Hank's a musician; maybe he should read this book!"
It wasn't anything amazing, but it was adorable. Hank, a very nice snake, and Stanley, a human, apparently live together and they both feel the need to find some inspiration. Maybe it can be found in the city? Maybe in a park? Maybe a coffee shop? Hank finally does to a museum or an art gallery (I can't remember which) and sees an amazing sculpture. That's inspiration! Such neat shapes and colors; definitely something that would appeal to a snake like Hank. I love that inspiration is a physical, tangible thing here... and it's also something brought about through all sorts of art. He realizes it's an emotion only as the sculpture is taken away; someone bought the sculpture! Poor Hank goes home, depressed, only to find Stanley was the one to have purchased it! How wonderful that friends understanding and sharing is another great theme in this story. Quite adorable... and inspiring!
