Book Sales Up the You-Know-What

Mar 20, 2010 17:07

It's Accio Books month at the Harry Potter Alliance. And that means that I am scrambling to get as many books as possible to donate to charity. I have an awful feeling that Hufflepuff House will lose *again* but a girl can dream and I'm going to work as hard as humanly possible to help them win. And that means buying books. And, if able, Harry Potter books. I already mailed 14 Harry Potter books to the Mississippi Delta region along with 107 other books. And it looks like I might need another 2 boxes still to send the ones I just bought.

I went to the Fairfax City Library book sale for the first time yesterday (took off 2 hours of work, because I work just down the street from the library). I got there at 8:50 and doors opened at 10. I was maybe the 10th or 15th in line.

I bought some of my favorite books to send to the Mississippi Delta:
  • Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew
  • The House at Pooh Corner
  • Ella Enchanted
  • From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
  • The Outsiders
  • A Separate Peace
  • The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
I bought these Harry Potter books:
  • Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (hardcover)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (hardcover)
  • Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (hardcover)
  • Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix (hardcover)
  • Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix (hardcover)
  • Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows (hardcover)
  • Quidditch Through the Ages
And I bought:
  • Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures Vol 1 (for myself; I don't think I have it already)
  • Look Out, Washington, D.C. (for the BC Convention)
  • And 2 books that are for BookCrossers who have done a lot to help melydia & thecrrcookie get to Amsterdam
All that for $20! Amazing! I really liked the book sale. High quality book, really nice people, and lots more space to move about than in other places. Or maybe I'm just so used to being cramped. LOL But, yeah, I'll definitely go back.

I checked the Pohick Library sale shelves and bought...
6 Choose Your Own Adventure books
For $3

And then I went to the children's book sale at Reston Library for the first time. The prices were a little high, and lots of what I wanted was specially priced to be much higher. I liked that the poster specifically mentioned Harry Potter books though. LOL I bought a bunch of stuff, some of which I'm definitely keeping!
  • Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (audio on cassette tape)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix (hardcover 1st Edition)
  • Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (paperback)
  • Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (hardcover)
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Quidditch Through the Ages
  • Tales of Beedle the Bard
  • Choose Your Own Adventure: Cave of Time (for the BC Convention)
  • Look Out, Washington, D.C. (for the BC Convention)
  • The Bro Code (Squee! LOL Totally mine!)
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Deluxe Pop-up Book (Mine! I LOVE this! *enjoys*)
  • Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (paperback in French. Keeping this.)
  • X/1999 Volume 11 (I only had up to Volume 10)
  • X/1999 Volume 12 (I only had up to Volume 10)
And that was $48. Kind of expensive for 23 books but I got some awesome ones for myself, a much-needed Choose Your Own Adventure, and a lot of really high quality Harry Potter books. I left behind about 5-8 hardcover Harry Potter books which were first editions and going for $5 each.

I'm going to hit the Fairfax City bag sale and possibly one other book sale tomorrow.

book sale, hpa
