The Best Bear in All the World
by A.A. Milne, Kate Saunders, Brian Sibley, Mark Burgess, Paul Bright
When I saw that there was a collection of new Winnie-the-Pooh stories out in honor of Pooh's anniversary, I snagged it off the library shelves at once, took it home, and devoured it. The stories weren't quite the same as the ones I grew up reading over and over and over again, but they were great companions to those and welcome additions to the Hundred Aker Wood.
Each story, tackled by a different author, shows the wood in a different season. And all of Christopher Robin's friends show up in full force with perfect roles. Moments I loved: Eeyore FINDING the important thing on his own and guarding it (brave little donkey!), Piglet riding with Roo in Kanga's pouch, another expotition (this time to find the Sauce of the River), Rabbit showing up with his many friends and relations, Owl pretending so hard that he knows everything, Tigger being so very bouncy, and Christopher Robin swooping in to clarify things when needed. Oh, and Pooh. Pooh was so... Pooh! And he met a new friend, a perfectly proper penguin that was inspired by a stuffed penguin Christopher Robin had:
These adventures were fun, wonderful, lovely, and sweet. I'm so glad they exist :-)
