I was disappointed by the second book in this series, but this third one was excellent. We learn from the first chapter that there is a sick and terrifying murderer in London who likes to chop off bits of his victims. He sends one such part--a leg--to Strike with the intention of ruining him. However, he addresses it to Robin in order to drive the knife even deeper into Strike's heart. Strike has three suspects right off the bat, and the two investigators spend the book tracking each of the three suspects down while trying to salvage their struggling PI business. Robin is targeted repeatedly, and also has to deal with the stress of getting married... even though her fiance sucks and she may or may not have feelings for Strike. That's a lot for poor Robin to deal with. And Strike feels guilty for putting her at risk. Considering how much I love Robin and Strike, it was a tough and scary plot!

Even with just three suspects, I still didn't figure out the mystery. But I still enjoyed the ride... even if I was worried about Robin the whole darn time! There aren't a lot of nice characters in the book, but this one did introduce a new one in Shanker, who's a noble and loyal man (for an opportunistic criminal). I was relieved that I liked this book so much. I'm hoping Silkworm was an anomaly. I'm really looking forward to my next adventure with Robin and Strike!
