Ultimate Spider-Man #3: Double Trouble
by Brian Michael Bendis & others

I'm not entirely sure who the "double" in this title refers to. Spider-man runs into a lot of shady characters and problems in this volume. First, Gwen Stacy appears. Daughter of the police chief, she is spunky, sticks up for herself (and people in trouble; like Peter when he gets picked on at school), and doesn't care about answering to authority. Then there's Kong, I wish a pretty normal guy at Peter's school who remembers he got bit by a spider and easily puts together that Peter is Spider-Man. Then there's Doctor Otto Octavius who has been kept alive after his accident in the lab in Volume 1, only his metalic arms have fused to his body so now he's a rageful Doc Oc. And finally there's Kraven, a TV reality show star who vows to take Spider-Man down (and get awesome ratings in the process). Basically, Peter's got a lot on his plate. Plus... he and Mary Jane are getting more serious in the "being a couple" department. And the worst part is that Aunt May is starting to figure out something is going on and feels hurt when Peter lies to her. It's for her own good, but he still feels pretty bad doing it.

Poor Peter! That's more than a lot to deal with, let alone all at once. But I enjoyed watching the lad try in this volume. I wish he were able to confide in Aunt May. She's really torn up about things, especially after Uncle Ben's death. Poor thing.

On to volume 4!
