I don't know if I'm supposed to be amused/happy/frustrated/annoyed/scared about last night.
I guess I felt a little of everything.
I almost shit my pants when I realized that the ringing wasn't the phone, it was the fire alarm instead. Yes folks, the fire alarm went off last night in our apartment building. And no, this was not a drill, which was what I first thought when my mom said that the fire alarm was going off. See we were all laid out on the living room in our separate couches, watching Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (So sue me, I find that I like watching them try to sing and dance at the same time, and there wasn't anything good on tv last night, damn that stupid writer's strike). And the tv was really loud and a couple of girls were about to have a cat fight, so when I heard ringing, I naturally thought it was the tv. But my mom said that no, that was the fire alarm. It took a couple of seconds for the fact that there was a fire alarm going off to settle in. And when it did, the first thing I did was go to the door and open it, that's when I saw the Indian family from next door running down the hall to the stairs. I think a teensy bit of panic went through me cause I saw the woman fall down while carrying her young daughter in her attempt to go down the stairs as fast as possible. But there wasn't even any smoke at this point, there's just that weird smell of like a wire that burnt in the air. When I realized that the alarm was for real, I went back in the house, grabbed my shit (by shit I mean my MacBook, my harddrive, my bag, a hoodie and flipflops). My sisters, Yeye and Ina, my mom and my dad both had their laptops too. Then my mom also grabbed this bag where she keeps all the important papers and we got our asses out of there. We didn't even think about going out the fire exit, we just went down the main stairs and out the building. When we got down, it turns out that it wasn't that serious, there was one unit on the second floor where the parents left their kids, who were like 10 and 5 or something both boys and both very young, for the night, and they forgot to turn the frickin' oven or stove or something off. The kid even had a minor burn because he tried to put out the fire.
When were finally allowed to come up back into our unit, we just laughed about it, cause we all brought the same thing, our computers. Hahaha. And in my hurry, I wore the most uncomfortable of the flipflops we have, you know that platform style of Havaianas? Yes that's what I brought, just imagine if the fire was for real and I was running for my life, those slippers would have been the death of me. Then Karina left Kris' laptop at first in her hurry to get out of the apartment. We actually went back up a couple of times to grab a couple more things when we saw that no smoke was building up and they were still checking what was wrong. I even went back up to grab Kris' laptop and the power cord for my mac (I was thinking that if this did turn out to be a full blown fire, I'd rather not spend ike 70 bucks on a power cord for my mac.) Man, am I soooo glad that our apartment didn't burn up last night. I mean, we're just starting to get our stuff together over here and imagine what our belongings being burnt would do to our already unstable life.
I guess that little scare brought a few good things, as we are now concocting our very own "What to Do If There Is A Fire" plan.
But the cherry on top of the whole night was when the firetruck came and the fire alarm went off again for a couple of seconds. Oh man, all four of us, (my mom, yeye, ina, and me) immediately stood up and were about to pack up again. Then my dad was just sitting there, combing his hair then he just laughed. That's when we realized that the firetruck was already there and they were just checking the alarm. Hahahaha.
All in all, last night was prolly the most exciting night I've had in months.
Oh yeah and I got my tickets to Oasis!!!!
