Your Christmas sounds lovely, a delightful tonic of relaxed in that crazy here-is-all-the-family-wow-busy kind of a way :)

I really like the idea of students evaluating teachers and teaching sensibly. I KIND OF wish that it were something that happened here in secondary schools (11-18 yrs old), but know it would never work in practice because kids are rubbish at being sensible, and if it did, it'd be used for professional development or criticising teachers. I would say, concentrate on the happy ones, because the students you pissed off probably were the ones who didn't work as hard ;)

it was! though i did feel like a bit of a ping pong ball going back and forth between the families ;)

Sensibly? as much as I'd love for that to happen in college classes it doesn't most of the time. No one is really sensible - especially if they're not happy with their grade in the class so far. Though actually if evaluations were done at an earlier age it might help students get used to the process, which would be a good thing for everyone, so maybe your system would work! I mean, the tough part is that there's an underlying assumption the students can identify and explain what makes someone a good teacher, which yes, sometimes they can, and no sometimes they can't at all.

and every time i get evals i try to concentrate on the good ones... though this time i do think there was something to the disgrunteled (oh, not that i'm below average or poor in every area, but that i do need to work on my time management and stuff)

Awesome pictures. What a beautiful baby! And you just reminded me how much husband and I loved the Black Hills when we drove across country 22 years ago. Gorgeous!
