t minus 1 day and counting
I've packed the things that I'm supposed to pack (mostly), I'm leaving behind some stuff that I can't fit. I decided not to mail my stuff because it's actually cheaper to pay for the extra baggage costs at the airport than it is to ship UPS (well, unless I do ground and then don't have any of my towels until thursday - but that's not going to happen)
It's going to be a kind of amazing trip.
+ down / got home from the family trip and promptly had a bit of an emotional breakdown. I've been having these, and they're really not that fun, but I'm surviving through them, which is the important part.
+ up / finally saw Iron Man 2 and was pleased with the film. I won't say more in case there's someone else who hasn't seen it yet, except that it was EXACTLY what I expected it to be, and that was pleasing in an explosions-cgi-men-behaving-badly-kind of way
+ down / the emo has mostly been because I've been attempting to work through some heavy duty relationship and house stuff. I'm still working through it, and I hope that there's sunshine at the end of the rainbow, and I'm working towards it as hard as I can. It's too early to tell, but i'm hopeful, even if it's really tough going.
+ up / went out with my girlfriend last night for dinner and really laid the whole thing out with her - and even though she did get in one gentle 'why am i always right?' she was overwhelmingly supportive and bracing and beautiful and just what I needed. And we even moved on from that to actual other stuff too - thoughtful stuff - and that was nice too.
+ up / i'm coming to realize and accept that the WAY that I enjoy media is to engage with them on a critical level. I'm not *criticizing* the show - I'm ENJOYING it... it just so happens that I can laugh and be in the moment AND see how the relationships are being structured or race is coming into play (or being erased), or gender roles are playing out, etc. I've been having conversations with friends and family about this kind of thing I do, and some people I know also do it, and others feel like it's working too hard or somehow picking apart the texts (so it's aside from enjoyment). Everyone is allowed their own bliss, I just think that's mine. I'm also realizing that's probably part of the reason why I'm in fandom - so I can read other people's meta. Fourthvine pointed out all fanfic is a kind of meta, and I kind of agree ;)
+ up / I am almost done with my kradambigbang art and I can't show it to you yet! :( but I will, someday!!
It is weird to think that I won't be writing in my journal in english for 9 weeks. weird weird weird. Oh, and I'm going to leave the poll open (though I think most everyone who has an opinion has voted in it) until I go to make my first post in Japanese. Right now the 'unlocked' is narrowly winning over 'locked'. I wish you all luck with Goggle translator (be warned, Japanese translations come out hilarious. HILARIOUS).
