Meh, I have to say I agree with some of the things you said. I kinda went off the LJ map half way into season 4 for personal reasons (it honestly had nothing to do with the show) and now I'm back. Like you, I haven't seen any episodes past about the middle of season 4. I have seasons 4 and 5 on DVD and I'm just now to the point where I want to actually watch them.

From what I've heard about the H/C fandom, I'd say that you're on the money. It sounds like the shit hit the fan pretty badly, and I'm glad I wasn't around for it. And now that I'm back, it just doesn't feel the same. Some of my old friends are still here, and for that I'm eternally grateful. But I miss all the amazing fics, and the insightful journal entries, and the outstanding graphics.

I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with you though about the current state of the show itself. Now keep in mind that I haven't seen seasons 5 or 6, but I'm just thrilled that we still have the opportunity to watch Hugh Laurie and all the other talented actors give repeatedly stellar performances. I don't care who sleeps with whom on the show, I'll continue to watch it as long as it's on.

Anyway. If you know of such an underground hidy hole for House/Cameron lovers, please let me know. I still write fic, but it seems like very few people appreciate it. At least not like it used to be appreciated.

I wish i had the stomach you have because i can't stand watching house with someone other than cameron. although, i think it's more my dislike of cuddy. i once had a conversation with a friend about who i could see house with if cameron never existed and i could love him with someone like rene russo's character in lethal weapon or helen hunt in almost anything. i think i wouldn't mind seeing him in a relationship with someone that's NOT Lisa/Cuddy. I just hate the entire way it went down, you know?

At this point I don't think I can go back to the House world since I'm not watching and refuse to do so. but i do miss some of the old HC hags ; ). I miss the great fanfic, too. i read 2 fanfics that are there now and they revolve around House/Cuddy! I was like... I don't want Cuddy anywhere near a HC fic. I don't even want it mentioned. I feel like fanfic is where we can really erase all the bad writing decisions of canon and yet people are using it as a plot point. As if House is only using Cuddy-- making him look like an ass-- or Cameron is second choice.

Anyhoo... I miss the fun HC stuff. I miss the creative stuff.

Well, I didn't say I like seeing House and Cuddy together, but I am glad we still get to watch Hugh doing what he does best. But you're right, things just won't ever be the same on the show again. Or here at LJ for that matter. It's good to see you pop in though!

Ha. We emailed at length about this, didn't we? "Casting" Hugh with actresses we felt would work with him, since both of us were convinced that Cuddy was made of fail. I still think Hugh is hot, but for me it was always about Hugh as House, and House in the context of Cameron. Kate, you would not BELIEVE how poorly written and produced the show is now -- and has been for the past three years. I'm mildly surprised that Hugh stays with the show, because the plots are recycled, the characters never change or grow or develop, and it's writers are as infantile as House himself. I adore Maybebaby and her writing, but I couldn't watch the show the way it has been thrown together. Maybebaby is right that there is acting talent on the show. But it's wasted, tragically.

hehehe 'rene russo'....

for me it was always about Hugh as House

EXACTLY ITA. House was who was sexy for me. I think we talked about this once, how I would never have found hugh sexy before i saw him as House. And with Cameron it was always so charged and ... beautiful, really. there was this innocence and underlying understanding between them. at least i thought so until TPTB decided to tell us that, No, there wasn't and we were just a bunch of lovesick idiots who thought there was.

I actually think Hugh will stay until the wheels fall off. He's not stupid. He's got a steady job and he probably knows that he's not going to go off and become the next George Clooney. He's getting older and it's nice to get those 15 million dollar paychecks for 6 months of filming vs. struggling to find a good film role. he's probably very cushy where he is, despite the hard working schedule and being away from his family. I always found something very weird about that. I wouldn't be surprised to find that he and his wife have been separated for a while. he always tried to say it was so that his kids could stay where they grew up but... really... they're all almost or over 18 now. moving to another country would be amazing for a lot of kids. i couldn't not see my husband but for 2 months out of the year. that's insane. something seems strange about that situation....

anyway... i'm glad i stopped watching exactly when i did because i didn't want to end up resenting the show and the time i wasted on it. now, i don't feel like i wasted any time... i got a lot out of it. it just disappointed me in the end. the saddest part is that, even if they didn't have House and Cameron get together, they could have killed her off in some tragic or meaningful way.... something that had an influence on House that paid tribute to his initial (and continuing, despite whatever they may try to convince everyone of) feelings for her. They could have even developed into a wonderful mentor/student relationship. going from a woman who was in love into realizing he was a lifelong friend or something. But no. the show is so childish and from what i've heard continues to be so.

Oh, the other thing that's absurd is that House gets together with Cuddy right after falling in love with some chick at an asylum, a woman played by Franka Potente. This, after he's had the hots for "Honey," for the Mira Sorvino character, and before that, for Cameron, and of course, Stacy. So, just fuck me. I mean, dude: Who do ya love?
