So, I feel really awful that I've been here for about a month and a half and I haven't written anything in this journal yet. Procrastination is one of my greatest talents, that's for sure. Let me start by making some lists:
Things I do in Europe that I don't do at home:
-Ride public transportation- the system here is so great! It's safe, it's reliable, and the trains come around every 6 minutes, depending on the time of day!
-Stare at people on the subway- it's perfectly socially acceptable to do so here! just so long as you don't smile at them.
-Speak German (duh)
-Walk alone at night in a big city- Vienna is much safer than Minneapolis, with almost no record of violent crime.
-Pay for things with change- there are one and two Euro coins, so it's perfectly acceptable and often preferable for one to pay al in coins.
-Try to fit in with the crowd- at home, I am proud of how individual I am. Here, I try to blend in as much as possible so as to avoid being stereotyped as just another obnoxious American. When people here think "American," they thing one word: LOUD, and maybe one more: RUDE. This exactly the opposite of what I want to do!

Ok, I know it was short, but I think this was a good first entry. I'll try to start updating every day, just so people can get little glimpses at my life here in Europe!
