Luke Brandon, despite his rough start in Newhaven, had achieved his life’s dream of becoming Education Minister and had lived a happy life with his wife Gwen and their two children. He only wished he had had more time with them.
While she missed her husband terribly, Gwen was pragmatic about Luke’s death. Although it felt all too soon, it had simply been his time and she encouraged Castor and Pollux to focus on the time they had had with their father and cherish those memories.
And as she assured her friends and neighbours who kept calling, she really was okay.
A part of her felt it really wouldn’t be that long until she saw her husband again, and in the meantime there was plenty to keep her occupied. She continued to devote herself to learning new skills and indulged her love of nature by bird watching and bug collecting.
But most importantly she had two young men to raise and help them achieve their dreams.
Castor wanted to work in politics and dreamed of one day being Mayor. His determination meant that when he landed a job in his chosen career he was quickly promoted.
This meant that, technically, he was actually in opposition to his best friend Augustus Charles. Castor may have felt worse if he didn’t know Augustus was only in politics to please his father Guy who was currently Mayor.
Pollux, meanwhile, practiced ballet every day despite knowing he was unable to pursue a career in it without anywhere to perform (although his twin had promised him that when he became Mayor he would build him a cultural centre).
He had also started taking steps to move out of his more exuberant twin brother’s shadow, making his own friends and even the beginnings of a romance.
Gwen knew Luke would be pleased.
