picking up boys.

right, so it's been like, 8 years. it's cool though, i'm not worried about it. however, i am about to share a story that could affect the dating lives of all those reading. i have found the world's greatest pickup line. no, seriously. there's a 98% success rating that comes along with it, and it puts all the power in the hands of the female. beautiful you say? well, you're right...

Last friday I went to blue cats with a group of friends to hear The Breakfast Club (rockin' 80's cover band) and to dance alot. I was having an absolutely stellar time when I noticed a tall blonde boy to my right who was fairly attractive. I signaled to Beth, but as she has directly opposite taste in boys she responded with, "whatever dude, go for it..."

(I would like to insert a sidenote here...Emily Lilley, I feel that your execution of the following pickup line could be unmatched if used correctly. And Strauss--I think you could do some definite damage internationally. Right-o, moving on...)

So I tap said boy on the shoulder, and the following exchange occurs:

Kate: "Excuse me, Do you know how much a Polar Bear weighs?"
Boy: "Ummmm...no."
Kate: "Enough to break the ice...Hi, I'm Kate."
Boy: laughter.

Right, it's stupid. and cheesy, i know...but it worked.

I wish I could tell you it stopped with my witty pickup line, but oh no. The boy was so astounded with my clever ways that on sunday he calls and asks if he can take me out to lumch whenever it's convenient for me. What was that? a boy working around my schedule? and wanting a real date and not an excuse to get me drunk? i might faint. So we had lunch...and the boy picks me up, lets me pick the place, opens car doors, pays...and follows up with a call that evening asking if we could do it again. honestly, i thought someone was playing a cruel prank.

I share this story not because i have an interesting dating life (i don't), but i want the polar bear to go national--well, international i guess. use it wisely friends. and that's all i got. peace.
