I've been smote? smited? What's that word?

Today was a perfectly sunny day, and 100 degrees. All day I sat at my desk sweating out enough liquid to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool. There was no relief from the heat, no breeze, nothing at all, not a single cloud in the sky to pass over the sun and create a moment of shade, no matter how brief.
I stepped out the office door at 5pm, jumped on my bike, and immediately the sky beacme steel-grey with the thickest clouds I've ever seen. The sky opened up and (insert Diety of your choice here) said "I hate you, Kate" and dumped the contents of the Atlantic Ocean upon me.
The downpour lasted less than a minute, and seemed completely isolated to the area where I was standing. I know this to be true, becasue everywhere else, indeed, everyONE else, was completely dry.
In essence, it looked like I had ridden my bike through the carwash.
When I got home and assurred my mother that this was not so, and that it had indeed rained down upon me in a huge way, she presented me with what may be the best 'just becasue' gift ever. Feel free to challenge this, but I'm sure that there is nothing better than issue one AND two of Jo Sharp's Contempory Knitting.
They are beautiful, incredible and about fifteen other adjectives.
I started working on her Tweed Cardigan from Knit issue 2 a couple days ago, and I am completely in love with it. The pattern is perfectly written, pure knitting genius. I'm knitting it with Cleckheaton's Country Naturals in a navy colorway. I love the yarn. It's so smooth and pretty and soft and lovely.
I'm half way thorugh the back, and I hope that it keeps going as quickly as it has been going. I want it. I want to wear it now.
And when it's done, it will be followed by many more fantastically beautiful creations. I am inspired.
I am also inspired by my georgeous new handspun/dyed. I've no photos yet, because I'd planned to do that this afternoon, but I'm avoiding the out-of-doors until I'm sure that some heavenly ruler is not out to soak me and me alone.
I dyed it using jello crystals, and it turned out amazing. I have about 200 grams each of Orange and Port Wine in a fingering/sport weight. Its soft and lovely and I have no idea what to do with it. I don't want to make hats because I've too many, so any suggestions would be wonderful.
And, becasue theres tinsel in the stores already, and I've been beginning to make lists and plans, here are some
Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves)could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals)to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
-If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, andno strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

All I want for Christmas...
1. Mail. Christmas cards, letters, photos from yout town, anything.
2. Links to great blogs and websites.
3. Music Recommendations, I'll like anything.
4. My Dad to come home.
5. A University of Canberra sweatshirt/shirt, or anything from your college.
6. New LJ friends
7. Icons just for me. Sheep/knitting would be cool.
8. Gilmore Girls Season 2 on DVD (it's the only one I'm missing)
9. Socks
10. Anything handmade, be it graphics or other online stuff, or anything else.

My email is kateheathcote@hotmail.com if anyone is in the giving spirit

I tag everyone to do this one. Let's see if we can't all brighten one anothers holidays. This is the time of year for love and sharing. Lets make it happen.
