Watched The Man With The Twisted Lip yesterday cos I saw that it's on Monday on ITV3 or some such and I couldn't possibly wait that long :$ and thought it was high time to put my thoughts about it in writing were nobody can give a shit, instead of boring everyone around me to death by talking about it like normal :D
I love this episode, I think it's my favourite ep from Return (going all mavericky and not saying 6 Napoleons like everyone else), pretty much entirely cos of the interaction between the 2 of them. My theory is that it takes place on their anniversary, cos *clears throat dramatically*
1) It takes place on 19th March. Holmes' and Watson's first case together starts on 3rd March and goes on for about a week or 2, and at the beginning of it Watson's all "Sherlock Holmes is a self important prick" (as well as totally obsessed with him, making lists of all he knows about him etc) and by the next story he's stopped with the obsessing and is all "Sherlock Holmes is the greatest man who ever lived, methinks that can only point to sexyteims post Study in Scarlet. Round about the 19th of March, in fact.
2) When Watson is all stood up he says that they arranged to have dinner together at his club 2 weeks ago, and Holmes doesn't even go to his club, so it's obviously an important dinner and it's Watson's treat
3) When Mrs Hudson says Holmes has gone on a case instead he says he's gonna take the chance to have an early night, like he knows he wouldn't get much rest if Holmes was there (I know that could be for any reason, but if they're case free it's more suggestive :P)
4) When his girly chum drops in and hears Holmes is off out somewhere she's all "Oh you've got your own problems you don't want to hear about mine" and I mean, Holmes is a grown man why would she expect Watson to be worried just cos he'd gone out and not said where?
5) When Watson goes after his friend's husband (my own theory is that they met at a support group for the spouses of drug addicts XD) Mrs Hudson's all "What will Mr Holmes say if he comes back and you're not here?" (she knows)
6) Watson's in a really pissy mood with Holmes when he does find him and makes very sarcastic un-Watsonish comments throughout Holmes' narrative of the case, despite agreeing quite excitedly to come along with him on it, the most notable being "It seems that that's a regular theme in life's fabric" or something along those lines, when Holmes mentions his client's husband going missing, and Holmes is all "Watson, what is this??" showing he's being typically husbandy and forgetting about it completely
Also on an unrelated, but nevertheless slashy point, Holmes apparently knows that tickling Watson's feet will wake him up, now I know a lot of people don't like it, but I doubt it's a sure fire way of waking people, I'm pretty sure most of us would just unconsciously move our foot.
