Done Disappearing

Hey folks,
No news on the ole LJ lately b/c my wrists have been very mad at me for over using the track pad on my MacBook, which makes me not want to work form it at home and I've been doing (gasp!) work at work lately so there you go. But I got a mouse and my wrists are a bit happier and now you can read all the things that I've probably already told you in person.

I looked at my calendar this morning and found all of Tuesday gloriously blank. No lunches with editors. No after work anythings. No phone conferences. No client meetings. Huzzah! That means I can send out some projects today, which should have happened last week, but with BEA and all.... So, now that I'm faced with a blank day (save my to do list at work), it's time to plan something fun to do later!

Who wants to hit up the TKTS booth and get some seats for August: Osage County? I am not an experienced theatre ticket buyer, through this or any means, and would really not like to pay $75 for these seats, but a certain person who I met through another certain friend's magazine column is insisting I see this play. Should we go on a weeknight? A Sunday? We buy the tickets the day before, right? Who's in?

Speaking of visual entertainment, a friend from my football team took me to see American Teen last week at Sundance at BAM and it is so incredibly excellent that you ALL must see it. Every one of you will like it, Sara and Maggie especially. I was a little unprepared for the premier at BAM--it was a little fancier than I thought, but luckily I was wearing a dress anyway, as I am wont to do in the summer. People were really dressed up b/c there was a prom themed after party upstairs at BAM, complete with boutonnièrs, crowns and tiaras and King/Queen sashes and pictures taken (which should be online somewhere), Kool-Aid spiked with vodka, and streamers and cheesy music. My friend Nancy and I walked around and talked to random people and met a woman who wants to be an animal massage therapist. Brooklyn was in FULL AFFECT that night. But also? Peter Saaaarrrrgaard and Maggie Gyllenhalllll showed up to introduce some important BAM/Sundance people (who all kept talking about *Bob* Redford) and man oh man is that man sexy. Peter, not Bob. And Marty Markowitz!!!! Maybe I'm on heightened Peter Saaarrraaagarrad awareness now but I passed him on the walk home yesterday so closely that we almost brushed shoulders. We made eye contact and he smiled at me, but in that "I know you know I'm famous but you're going to be cool, right? I'm with my kid." kinda way, which I of course was. I mean, this is Brooklyn. We create a haven for our celebrities because we're THAT COOL.

On a musical note, inspired by Jesse's inspired posts, I have been meaning to call your attention to a band called Midlake. I found them tooling around on Last.fm a while ago and downloaded their music from emusic. The video below For "Bandits" has about 1:38 of nonsense in front of it, so please skip ahead. I've had their album The Trials of Van Occupanther on repeat for weeks now. If you could describe a folk indie band as steampunk, but instead of Industrial Revolution-y steampunk they were Westward Expansion Frontier America steampunk, this would be them.
