Corflu Stu

I'm at Corflu. Stu Shiffman is not at Corflu. I want to put together a one-shot fanzine for Stu, written here. I've promised to write an article for that one-shot before midnight tonight. I'm also going to ask people who make Corflu-related LJ entries ( like this one by Kate Yule) if I can scarf those entries for this purpose, to give Stu a ( Read more... )

Sherlock Shiffman paced his hotel room, frowning. Dr. Andi Watson sat in her wheelchair and watched him.

"Shiffman, whatever is wrong?" she asked.

"This makes no sense," Shiffman muttered. "They call this gathering 'Corflu,' and yet nowhere, nowhere do I see or smell any trace of correction fluid. Not a mimeograph is to be found. Nay, not even a stencil. Have we come to the wrong conclave?"

Dr. Watson immediately picked up her companion's gloom. "Yes," she said. "Everyone is gathered around these strange boxes and flat objects which emit light. No one is pubbing their ish. Shiffman, once again you have put your finger on a problem I failed to see."

"Go out and procure one of those boxes for me. I must see one for myself."

Dr. Watson left the room and was gone what seemed an interminably long time. Finally she returned with a flat object on her lap.

"Everyone assured me that yes, we were at the right gathering. And people are very protective of their boxes and flat objects. But I finally found one which had been left on a table and was able to grab it before its owner returned."

Shiffman took the box from Watson and examined it. At first, he was daunted by the requirement for a "password," but he deduced the right combination of numbers in short order. After a few additional minutes, his face cleared with an uncharacteristic smile.

"Ahh, Watson, all is in order."

"Shiffman, what have you discovered?"

"You see, Watson, but you do not observe. These flat objects are replacements for mimeograph machines and stencils and correction fluid. One can pub one's ish directly into this contraption and convey it to readers. Look, here is Banana Wings. And here is Chunga.

"Amazing, Shiffman! Perhaps we should acquire one of these gadgets for ourselves."

"Yes, I think we must. Clearly, a new day of fanzines has dawned, and we are already behindhand."
