now posting at Dreamwidth (and what it means for LJ users)

Sep 01, 2010 21:09

I've been meaning to move all my posting to Dreamwidth for a while, and now is as good a time as any. [*]

You don't need a Dreamwidth account to keep reading and commenting on my posts. Here's the deal:
  1. All my posts will still appear here, cross-posted from Dreamwidth.
  2. All the comments, however, will be at DW, because duplicated and separated ( Read more... )

Commenting here just for now, as I am likely to be making a very similar leap as soon as I get back in town next week -- I am silveraspen at DW as well.

I knew I was missing something.

It'll automatically import all your icons, friends, entries, and even comments if you want: https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/importer. Setting up crossposting is also incredibly easy here: http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=othersites

(I've imported everything just as a backup in case something awful happens to LJ, but set it all private because of the splitting-conversations thing.)

I crosspost constantly. It's pretty easy; in fact, I've been liking DW's posting interface more than LJ's.

And there's a big revamp coming soon for that which sounds really neat.

I'm sorry. The mechanism is exactly the same--click one link on your reading page to reply and another to read comments. But I hate loathe and despise having conversations split up and I'm tired of giving LJ as much traffic as I do.

(Once you get the login set up, you should be able to stay logged in, just like on LJ.)

Further to papersky's concerns: those times I've tried clicking through from LJ to comment on DW, I've been refused access, even though I have both OpenID access and my own DW account. I don't know what the problem is, and the need to post a comment has never been imperative enough to pursue it; it may be associated with my non-standard browser or some such. But if you notice a sudden falling-off of comments, it may be techno-issues rather than friends deserting you in droves...

If it happens again, do tell me or put in a support request, because I do want this to be as transparent a move as possible, please?

Awesome! So this means I can take you off the LJ reading list, yes?

Do you still have any invite codes? I would love to have one if so. Thanks!
