The icon discussion meme has come around again.
telophase asked me about the icons behind the cut. If you like, ask me about more icons, or ask me to pick some of your icons and then talk about them in your journal (leave a link to the post here).

desdenova This is my second default Fullmetal Alchemist icon. I have no idea now where I found the playing card that's its source, but I liked having an older Ed and Al together and the wistfulness of it.
desdenova tweaked the colors for me to get Ed's jacket a more accurate red.

Keywords: Gorey, struck with an axe; source/comment: Edward Gorey, The Gashlycrumb Tinies
Just took one of the many illicit images from The Gashlycrumb Tinies on the web, and cut and pasted the text to make it a square: because some days that's how I feel.

Keywords: Escaflowne, Escaflowne (dragon eclipse); source/comment: Episode 20,"False Pledge"
I got all the way to episode 20 of Vision of Escaflowne before finding a screenshot to represent the series. But since Escaflowne was not one of my favorite animes, I can't remember anything else about the image now.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/11070535@N08/2054038472/ We had no idea why a restaurant sign featured an octopus punching a fish to the moon, but it amused the heck out of us.
Some commenters at Chad's translated the sign, but didn't shed any light on the question.

Keyword: SteelyKid - grumpy baby is grumpy; source/comment: 2008-09-27;
http://scienceblogs.com/principles/2008/10/the_empress_is_not_pleased.php I sit SteelyKid up on my lap to burp her (I don't do the against-the-shoulder burp: it's uncomfortable and feels terribly insecure). She hates it and usually cries until the burps are out and I've stopped thwacking her on the back. That afternoon, though, she was kind of sleepy and just sat there, schlumped down and grumpy, in a way that I found hysterical: so I called Chad up to the nursery with the camera and he took her picture.
She will probably hate me for it when she's older, but until then, it amuses me.
