My Leading Man does not like going to the doctor. Not that most of us do, but he's particularly stubborn about it, so he hasn't gone for a check-up in something like 10 years. He's also obese - probably on the morbidly obese side - has a family history of heart disease, loves his snack foods, hates exercise, and is 53 years old.
I bet you can guess where this is going.
He's had a bit of a dry cough for a week, but yesterday he came home from work a little early, wheezing and short of breath. That was a little alarming, but I didn't worry until he asked me what I thought about going to see the doctor.

Then he asked me to drive.

Off we went to the local Urgent Care (not quite an emergency room, but more than a doctor's office) for an EKG and chest X-ray. The good news is that Leading Man wasn't having a heart attack.
~.~
The doctor strongly urged us to get Leading Man to a cardiologist A.S.A.P. The clear EKG only meant he wasn't having a heart attack at that moment. He may be well on the way to a heart attack; the shortness of breath and low blood oxygen saturation could be warning signs. His urging was very direct: he made an appointment for Leading Man with his own cardiologist for Monday morning. Guess that's a good recommendation for the cardiologist.
Leading Man also got a breathing treatment (nebulizer with Albuterol) and a fistful of prescriptions, as the shortness of breath and wheezing could be a form of bronchitis.
He's feeling a little better this morning, but I won't feel better until after Monday's appointment where he'll likely undergo a stress test, more EKGs, a possible echo-cardiogram (which I hope they let me watch because it would be cool to see the ultrasound of his heart), blood tests and more.
If nothing else, this appears to have put a little fear into him. He's already talking about trying to eat a little more sensibly and start walking for exercise. I told him NO exercise until cleared by Monday's appointment -- but I'll be happy if this gets him to begin mending his ways.
Prayers, wishes and hopes that this is: a) nothing serious; and b) a life-changing wake-up call will be most appreciated!
