I've had a bad hip for at least the last 20 years (it will suddenly "go out", feeling like it's just not quite in the socket, sudden loss of strength, and -- since late August -- nearly constant aching). This past week, I finally went to see a specialist ( Read more... )

I had surgery on the labrum in my right shoulder a year ago, and recovering from that was incredibly painful. I'm a bit afraid I'm looking at a similar thing now with my other shoulder. So you have my deepest sympathies. It's hard not to be a bit cranky when you're in constant pain. ~hugs~

Physical therapy seems to have actually made things worse. My Leading Man, my physical therapist and I are betting that the labrum in my hip is shredded.

One question: are you in less pain now than before you had the surgery? In other words, would you do it again if (or rather, when) you have to?

I've debated whether or not I'd do it again, and the jury is still out. I still have some level of pain...not quite what I had before though. I feel more confident using my arm now, and can do certain movements without pain that hurt quite a bit before surgery, but I sacrificed some flexibility that I won't regain and that is frustrating.

You know, if it was my shoulder, I'm not sure I would do it. I mean, the pain must have been excrutiating and I can't imagine not being able hold/lift/move things, but range of motion in that appendage? That seems far more important to me than in the hip.

I mean, it's not like I'm giving up a career as an Olympic gymnast or ballroom dancer. ;D

I hope your pain continues to abate and flexibility returns!

So... are they going to have to put you down? ;)

Hope you feel better soon and that they can give you some relief!

~one more hug for the pile~

I hope the physical therapy helps and soon feels less pit-of-Hades-esque. Or at least moves to one of the outer circles of hell.
