It’s been 20 years since the day we all watched the Towers go down. I was at work. Most of us were either glued to the nearest radio, or computer to watch the images. I remember at one point I called both my Mother and My brother J. Mom was in Hartford at a bunch of meetings. She bristled when she called me and reminded me that nothing was going to happen at the state capital. Jim was working in Philadelphia for the DOT. He called and said he was safe.
I know it isn’t just the towers but the plane crashes into the pentagon, and the Pennsylvania field. Subsequently I believe we would watch those videos as well.
My colleagues were all getting upset by the news. One of President Bush’s Daughters who was attending the University was literally whisked off the campus by security and I believe sent back home. I remember our administration gathered us together and reassured us that we were safe and if anyone felt they needed to go home they could do so. I think I stayed until it was time to go home.
I watched it a little bit more on TV and was impressed that one of the networks didn’t continually replay the planes crashing in to the towers.
In the days that followed we would learn more and more of the people who lost their lives and who the culprits were. I also remember that anyone who saw anyone suspicious were ready to report them. That was really stupid I thought. Feeding into the fear and acting on it wasn’t good.
There were three people from Milford who died at the towers. One of them was a schoolmate of mine and had the most wonderful smile Mike Miller. Then there was
Seth Morris 35 years old and worked on the 105th FL of one of the towers. I just learned both Michael and Seth both worked for the same firm and both lived in NJ. AVnish Patel I wasn’t familiar with but he worked on the 95th Floor of the tower.
Over the years I may have gone to one or two services in Milford. It was poignant, and also sad. There was one in town this morning as well at church. Both my sister and BIL went. I just didn’t want to go this year. I knew it would be on many channels, and played over and over again. There were also lots of documentaries.
I spent today doing laundry and going to the store for a few things. I also ordered canned food for the cats it should be here in a couple of days.
While I went to the store I got a text from Liz telling me that I can laugh and tell her to her hat. I had no idea what she was talking about. She explained we got the invitation to the wedding on OCT 1. She is encouraging me to go and so I am. I told Jim that as well.
I spent the rest of the afternoon doing laundry and picking up things here and there.
I was grateful to find that the kitties have been hitting their target with no problem. I will still wash the floor as It is time anyway.
