Fred, Reverse It
They had been staring at each other for over three minutes. This was a war of epic proportions. The shrieks coming from a half block down were all but ignored.
Hermione’s shoulders were tense and her jaw set
Freds was relaxed and smug.
He could wait all day.
She couldn’t. “Fred, reverse it.”
For a moment Fred’s smirk turned into a full smile and Hermione felt her breath hitch, but only slightly. “I don’t think I will,” he answered, his voice arrogant.
Her eyes narrowed and she continued to stare daggers at him, “Right now.”
“Why should I?” Fred was aware of the commotion down the street, but refused to take his eyes from hers. “You know he had it coming.”
Hermione ignored his last statement, and grit through her teeth, “Reverse it.”
He lifted his chin in defiance, but kept his smirk intact. “I won’t, Hermione. Let someone else figure it out. It’s extraordinary magic.”
Hermione took a step closer and she pretended she didn’t see Fred’s eyes flicker over her lips; this was not the time to continue the cat and mouse game they had been playing for ages. “Fred, reverse it, please.” She hadn’t intended her voice to be pleading, but maybe that’s what finally made him sigh in defeat.
“Fine.” He tore his eyes away from hers to carelessly flick his wand at Malfoy. The girly screeching finally stopped and Malfoy slumped down to the ground. The wings that couldn’t be controlled, the ones he’d sprouted quite suddenly, had disappeared as quickly.
“Happy?” he asked, turning to find her even closer to him than before.
Hermione softened. “Yes, thank you.”
Fred’s smirk faltered only slightly when she smiled. “You’re welcome.”
Hermione spared Malfoy a quick glance before adding, “You know, that really was extraordinary magic.”
