Farewell Uncle Herb

Jun 11, 2010 21:03

I was driving to work yesterday morning and saw a hearse that had been painted up and was now someone's car drive by me while at a stop sign. As it passed by me, I thought to myself "That's a bad omen," even though I don't normally believe such things.

When I got home from work, I found out that my Great-Uncle Herb had passed away.

He was 91, and had been with his wife (my grandpa's sister) for 70 years. They lived in Escanaba MI for a long time, although I know they've lived elsewhere. They adopted 2 children: a boy and a girl. Both married and had children of their own.

I haven't seen Uncle Herb in a while. His age made it harder for him to make the trip to the lower pennisula, and a lack of funds has kept me from travelling up to see them. He had a stroke a few months ago and had been in an assisted living place for a while recovering. Last Friday he returned home and we waited for the call saying he had finally passed. That call came yesterday.

Farewell Uncle Herb. Thank you for all of the good times.
