Jason and I have decided to enter a covenant marriage. Has anybody got information on this? The church where we will be married doesn't have any experience with them, even though the Covenant Marriage Act was passed in 1997. I guess they're not too popular among Louisiana Methodists! Ryan and I are going to get a Covenant marriage too. First Presbyterian won't marry you if you don't. Here's what you need to do.

1. Clergy Appointment: At least one appointment with the clergy member performing the wedding

2. Three Month Preparation: A minimum of 3 months of preparation from the initial clergy meeting until the wedding date

3. Inventory: The completion of a relational instrument, inventory, or test; one of the bride, one of the groom (they ask you a lot of very personal questions)
This includes at least 1 session with a professional Christian counselor to discuss the finding from the inventory. Call Baton Rouge Christian Counseling Center at 387-2287 to request that they mail you the inventories. Then BRCCC will call you after they receive your completed inventories to schedule a session with a professional Christian counselor. (It takes about 3 weeks for computer scoring)

4. Premarital Instruction: Participation by both bride and groom in an instructional course of joint preparation (such as the "Engagement Seminar")
Call BRCCC at 387-2287 to sign up for an "Engagement Seminar" that best fits you schedule.

5. Marriage Counseling: If problems arise in the marriage, be willing to seek marital counseling with a clergy member or competent profressional Christian counselor.

There is a cost of $150 to cover expenses (payable to BRCCC) to cover:
a) the computer scoring of inventories ($30)
b) one session with a professional Christian counselor ($45)
c) the Engagement Seminar, 6 hours of instruction ($75)

This is the schedule for the remaining 2005 Engagement Seminar (it does not matter which church you go to for attending). First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, and First Baptist in Baton Rouge all participate in this (The last one at First Methodist for the year was July 16). The Seminar is on a Saturday from 9am until 3pm. I don't have the schedule for 2006 yet.

Saturday, September 24 First Presbyterian Church 763 North Blvd., 3rd floor room

Saturday, November 12 First Baptist Church 529 Convention St.
