Look, I'm design-challenged. I can't figure out colors for love nor money. When I shop for clothes, I throw myself upon the mercy of the sales help to find a blouse that goes with the skirt. I like to shop from catalogues and I'll just buy the complete outfit on the model. So, it's time to paint the bedroom. Yikes! What color? And Mr. Corvi thinks that white is always a fine choice, the heathen. I want color, I'm just afraid that I'll pick something waaay wrong. Heck, my friends list here needs revamping 'cause I can barely read some of the names with the idiotic choices of front colors and background colors.
Why Martha Stewart Rocks My World
(Now, there's supposed to be a cut and a read more comment, but I'm being pretty stoopid and I can't get it to work. I'll blame the paint fumes and promise to work on this tomorrow. And yes, I've read the FAQs and I still can't get it. Stoooopid!)
Go to Kmart, walk to the paint department and look at all the pretty paint chips. And then, see why MS is a genius. Here's why:
She tells you what colors go with each other!
How brilliant is that??? Ok, for me, it's friggin' brilliant. Tonight I went to buy a gallon of Buttercream to paint the sheetrock around the newly installed French doors in the greatroom and I decided that I would find a color for our amazingly boring bedroom. It's white. It's a messy room. It is not the "comfort retreat" that the designers, especially Martha, would have us sleeping in. I need new bookshelves and a decent bedside table and let's just admit that the futon became passe the year I graduated from college, but hey, my back likes my sleeping on a rock, so I've still got it. The piles of folders stacked around with the printouts of fic and RetroX comments just add to the ambiance.
So, I picked out a color called Firefly and bought a quart and I just spent the last twenty minutes slapping it up in various areas around our room, wherever I could find some blank space around the artwork. I think it's going to be too yellow, but I'll know more when it dries and maybe in tomorrow's overcast (more rain in the forecast! There's a surprise for you) light from the windows it will look less yellow. And if we have really weird dreams tonight, blame it on the paint fumes. (Of course, there's the time Mr. Corvi sat straight up in bed around 3:00 a.m. and said "Fish, vinyl fish" then lay back down to a sound sleep and left me and the dogs to puzzle over that. There had been no test painting that night, so that's a mystery I'll never solve. And I don't really know if I want to know the truth about vinyl fish. They might turn out to be too mundane and I'll be disappointed.)
Ok, so if Firefly doesn't work out, I may go for Winter Surf, which is a gray. I also like New Bamboo, which looks quite lovely next to Firefly. I'm so shopping at the Big K tomorrow! If it rains all day, I might get the room mostly done.
