So, this happened to me a few weeks ago in a dress that I would expect it in. But yesterday, wearing a cute silk wrap top that I thought was flattering, it happened again. I bumped into my thesis professor on lunch. We caught up on what we've both been doing since graduation last year (she's still teaching and just bought a house in SD. I'm moving to Charlotte NC in a week. Typical stuff.) And then she glances at my stomach, tilts back inquisitively, and says "and, are you expecting something?". "no" I respond. "oh, I'm so sorry" says she, as she should be.
The first time I was checking out as DSW, and the clerk girl says something I didn't really understand but had the word "bump" in it. I do the math and tell her "no". So she finishes the transaction, and when I'm leaving tells me "congratulations!" and I wanted to scream at her "what part of NO don't you understand!?"
Next time I'm just going to turn the embarrassment up a notch and tell whoever it is, loudly, "no, i'm just fat!". I mean, I can understand a miss-step like that from a guy because they tend to not know when to say or not say certain things. But as a woman!? Don't you just KNOW that unless I'm OBVIOUSLY pregnant, like 8 months or more, you just do not ask that sort of thing. Sorry if I tend to put my extra weight on in that strategic area of my stomach, but no, I'm not fucking pregnant. Now piss off.
*vent over*
