Bless me. I have sinned: It's been nearly a month since my last entry. But for good reason.
House stuff has been going great. Pretty much all is done except the final painting of trim and some walls--very tedious but do-able stuff.
It's life in general that's distracting. Our little Pomeranian Celine suddenly went blind three weeks ago, an apparent victim of SARDS, or Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome, a relatively rare ailment that hits about 4,000 dogs annually for no apparent (or known) reason. (Google it if you want a whole run down on it. Lori already belongs to two or three support groups.)
We took Celine to our regular vet; then we took her to a specialist vet; and then we went back to our regular vet. Lori has been e-mailing a doctor back in Iowa doing experimental SARDS treatments, but it seems unlikely she's a good candidate. Luckily SARDS has no other ill effects or pain affiliated with it.
The good news is she is adapting well, which makes us feel a bit better. And admittedly, I have to laugh a bit when she barks at a wall.
Once that crisis was handled, it was my turn. During a sort-of-routine flossing session I popped out an onlay on my tooth #19 (a molar) and had to make an emergency dental appointment to fill the gaping void. What I needed, my dentist Denise Walhaur noted, was a crown.
Yesterday she took molds of my teeth and installed a temporary. Since there had been terrible problems eight years ago when she put in the onlay, THIS time she gave me extra Novocaine just to make certain I wouldn't feel a thing. In fact, she gave me so much that me feet and arms were numb for the longest time and my mouth hadn't regained the ability for regular speech until nearly six hours later.
Today both Margie and Norm Tucker of Crown Construction came to the house and helped clean up, teach and inspire. Lori and I couldn't have found better partners for this house adventure.
