Water Torture

We lost sink! After only one full day.

Malmedal plumbers had braved the freezing rain Friday, traveling here from Banks to hook up our kitchen water and more--only to have the new pipes freeze Saturday night. The new bathrooms still work, but we're back to the water-free kitchen that we've had for the last month.

Talk about a tease.

Luckily Lori made soup Friday night with the ease of a kitchen sink. She even got in one sink wash (the dishwasher is in but not the electric). It was a wonderful moment, and then it ended.

At least we'd had the plumbers turn up our water heater for us while they were here--or so we thought.

Before we've had lukewarm water coming out ever since we'd replaced our broken water heater five months ago. It didn't matter so much during our warm Fall, but when it's below 25 outside for more than a week, one NEEDS a hot shower.

Saturday morning I jumped in the shower, a-shiver with anticipation. I could see icicles through the window. Snow was several inches thick, too. The warmth would be welcome.

But it didn't happen. In fact the water was tepid, even chillier than before the adjustment. "Are you sure," I asked Lori, "that Justin didn't turn the water heater down?" She'd watched him do it. Lori didn't know, but since she'd seen it done once, she simply turned it in the opposite direction. A bit later that day we discovered she had succeeded.

The water was blazing hot. Except in the kitchen, of course, where there was no water at all.
