Horseys and Royals
Okey-le-dokey. Wow. What a day. Went driving this morning, which went purdy good, weather better than yesterday (it snowed, dammit!!). On Monday has a lesson w/ John Parker's (he is carriage driving GOD, one of the Queen's fav), was fabulous. But on to the good stuff: Grand Nationals today!! Wowowoowowow! (is a veryvery HUGE horse race, with jumping). Was gunning for McCoy, but two loose horses ran him into the fence, he was in the lead too! What a shame. So some dude named Ruby won it, couldn't care less. Blah. Bastard. The 13th female jockey to ever run the race, Cheril something, riding a horse named Forest Gunner, pulled a 5th. She definitly is a good enough jockey, she just didn't have the horse. *Sigh* Which really bites after that comment by Ginger McCain (trainer of the legdend Red Rum), saying a woman jockey could never, ever bring a horse to victory. I dunno if he was just spurring her on or being a bitch. But he did give her flowers afterwards. Still, so disapointed about McCoy and his race, he was doing damned well, couldn't do a thing wrong in the world and the damned loose horses just fucked it up for him. Waaaahhh! Annnnd Charles and Camilla got married today. Not very exciting. No horses. Just to clarify for everyone in the US who knows nothing about the Royal Family (alas, I too was once one of you), Camilla CAN NOT BE QUEEN!! I'm not exactly sure why I think maybe because she is not only also a divorcee, but maybe had some jail time? Let's explain the whole thing: A prince or princess is in line for the throne, an heir, although maybe not direct (Prince Charles is next in line, then Prince William. . .), a Duke or Duchess does have claim to the throne but only if the rest of the royal family is wiped out. For example, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh (husband to Queen Elizabeth), cannot be King unless Princess Royal (princess Ann, the Queen's sister, only inheriting if her sons and grandsons die and have produced no heir)dies, then he can possibly take over. So basically Dukes and Duchesses cannot inherit; which is why Camilla is Duchesses of Cromwell (as far away as they could possibly get her!!), and will be Queen Consort. Diana was Princess of Wales, as CHarles is Prince of Wales. Poor William is balding, and he's in his early 20's! Even that 2.1 million inheritance can't save him from that. Anyhoo, I thought it was hilarious they were carting the Royal family from Chapel to castle (about a block walk inside the castle walls of Windsor) in buses. That really really cracked me up. The hats at this wedding were absolutely astounding!! Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) and Phil Collins were both there too; I could have sworn Atkinson kept asking 'Did you bring the picnic basket?' Heehee. But that was all good fun, especially since I've been to Windsor and was seeing all this stuff I'd already seen in such a big event. Was tri kewl. Haven't gotten ahold of Chris yet, will call him today or tomorrow. Dad is now into motorcycles, considering getting a hog when he gets back (midlife crisis, who cares he deserves it). Damn those loose horses, McCoy shoulda won it!! Horse crazy, I know. Dettori raced at Santa Anita today apperently, can't wait till he comes back to New Market. What a jockey. Poor McCoy.
