So, a long overdue birthday/valentine's day update rolled into one big post....
My birthday party was awesome, though a bit stressful to manage. All told, there were 21 people there (though not all at the same time) and we somehow managed to fit them into a room made for 12-15 people. Collecting money didn't go as badly as I thought, though I was freaking out because most people were handing the money to Matt and not me, prompting me to freak out halfway through the night :) Oh! For those who don't know, I rented a room at a Korean karaoke place called Feel. That's my favorite kind of karaoke - I don't like the Sardos/Dimples American style, where people watch you sing and judge you. I'd much rather have a bunch of friends chilling out with two microphones and two plasma tv's just for us! And because I don't want to retype everything I've already written about the venue, just
check out my Yelp review. Cause I'm hip. Or something.
My actual birthday was also awesome. You've already seen pictures of my office, so I won't go over that again. Suffice it to say that work was great - yummy chocolate hazelnut torte, lots of balloons, and lots of well-wishers. At home I managed to successfully video chat with my parents (never an easy thing, with the aim to ichat/pc to mac conversion mucking things up) while I opened their gifts to me. Then Matt was able to get off work early (9:30pm, ha!) and he drove over to my place for a tiny little bday celebration. We ates gobs of pastries and finally cracked open the bottle of sauvignon blanc I bought at a winery two years ago, and it was delightful. He sang "Happy Birthday" to me and everything! So cute :)
Valentine's Day was laid back, and thus: awesome. (Yes, everything is awesome. Deal with it.) We woke up late, watched tv (last nights BSG and Dollhouse) and ate cinnamon rolls, and then drove to Burbank to try to catch Coraline in 3-D. Which of course didn't happen, because it was V-Day, and thus sold out. So we saw Fanboys instead, and it was great. Your typical roadtrip movie with a bunch of dudes (and Kristen Bell), but throw in massive amounts of Star Wars references and general geekery, and you have a pretty good flick. After the movie we went grocery shopping, because our big plan for V-Day dinner was to pretend we were real adults and make our own ravioli, from scratch. Well, it didn't take long for us to realize that it was already 6:30pm, and after making the dough, etc, we wouldn't be eating till well after midnight. So we bought won ton wrappers, and made our own tortellini instead. (For the record, we still weren't eating until 10:30pm. Cooking your own food is overrated sometimes.) Anyway, Matt sucks, because it turns out he's really good at making tortellini. Like REALLY GOOD. The jerk just grabbed the won ton wrapper and the filling, and his hands moved like lighting and suddenly: voila! A picture perfect tortellini. Mine looks like little lumps, frequently with holes in the dough and filling oozing out. Oh well. Dinner was lovely and oh-so-yummy.
So for the interested parties, for my birthday Matt bought me seasons 1 and 2 of Carnivale, which is super exciting because I've been meaning to buy those for years but they're never cheap enough. For V-Day I received (on top of the beautiful combo bday/vday roses at the office) I got a coupon good for one romantic picnic, which I will redeem at a future date. That was the one bad thing about vday - it was supposed to rain and being freezing, so we scrapped the picnic. Oh well, we'll just find a better weekend!
I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but this is it for now. I need to remember to update more often!
