How to Catch an Emma, and Christmas '07 (Pic-Heavy!)

For the amusement of many (read: myself) I've uploaded a very useful primer on how to catch an Emma in the wild. This handy picspam includes native habitat and common behaviors, so check it out!

There is an elusive creature that runs wild in the hills of Glendale. This is the species known as russianblueris domestica muttensis also referred to as: Emma. If you're lucky enough to befriend one, you've made a lifelong companion. But don't get on it's bad side! Note: Emmas are said to prefer males humans over females. There is no logical reason as to why this is the case, but it has been proven with rigorous scientific testing. Some claim it may be related to having a female owner, but this is still being treated as a theory by the scientific community at large.

Emmas like to sleep in the sun, preferably on a soft surface. Begin by looking for what I like to call an "Emma nest." These are rounded indentations in a blanket that are roughly the size of a 14 pound cat curled into a ball.

If you are in doubt as to whether you've found an Emma nest, here's a clue. Get a close up look at the fibers of the blanket - if it's a true Emma nest, then the fibers will be stuck together in various formations as if licked. Of course, everyone knows it's utterly silly for a cat to lick a blanket, but the Emma cat has been known to do this on many, many, occasions.

This nest is an important place for Emmas. Here they do many activities, ranging from staring out the window onto the street below, grooming themselves....

sleeping....

And glaring at intruders.

Remember, if you across an Emma in her nest, be careful. Her adorable appearance belies her slightly not-so-scary personality.

Happy hunting!

Last Sunday I finally got my act together and set up my Christmas decorations. I was quite pleased to discover the only place in my apartment that my cat can't reach.

My tv is very Christmasy! (Look, it's Family Guy!)

I own far too many Christmas decorations for someone who lives in a studio apartment. Yes, it's my favorite holiday.

My wreath! On the inside, because the outside of my door is boring.

And...a closeup of my tree. Look at all the fun ornaments! (When I turn on my tree lights, my Darth Vader comes to life with the immortal, "The Force is strong, young Skywalker. But you are not a Jedi yet!"

Oh, and check out my mad needle felting skillz!

He's now decorating my desk at work :)
