Dinner?

Aug 10, 2007 13:10

There have been quite a few recent additions to the Cavite household, and we've all been so busy I'm not certain we've actually all met each other. Since Yachiru is going to be joining us as well, I thought we ought to make some introductions, and perhaps get to know each other over dinner.

My rather hasty research seems to indicate that most ( Read more... )

I think that a family dinner sounds wonderful. If you'd like some help cooking, Yumi and I are always happy to help.

Yup; always happy to help. Though I lack in culinary skills completely.

That's not true! You're a genius when it comes to making those no-bake cookies!

"No-bake" totally being the key word there.

Well, they still taste amazing.

...No-bake cookies?

Please, please, teach me how to make these things!

Zack is far too addicted to cookies, you see, and ever since I destroyed the kitchen with my first attempt at baking I've hesitated to put anything inside the oven itself in case I might have miscalculated something that might explode; a fireball atop the stove will only dissipate into the air, but a fireball in an enclosed cage of heavy steel might well send shards through walls, and I'd like to avoid needing to pay for a second remodeling while Cloud's gone on his business trip, and... er.

...did I mention please?

Hey, I owe you for the living arrangements, don't I?

It's not a debt. It's ...actually, I'm not sure what the word for it is; is there a word for what you do for people because they're important to the people who are important to you, and it becomes a distributive proposition in which you become important as well?

Aelita and Odd are both fond of you, and Cloud is fond of many more people than he'd ever admit, and so of course we'd provide you with shelter. It would be too much like my former masters not very kind otherwise.

But I'll gladly accept any instructions you see fit to provide. :3

I don't think there is. Other than the fact "good deed" pops into my mind for some unknown reason.

Well, I'm glad people are fond of me. ♥

Anytime you're willing to learn, I'm willing to teach.

Good deed, eh? How remarkable. I never thought anyone would consider applying a phrase like that to something I'd felt it was important to do. What a peculiar world...

It's a nice feeling, isn't it? This is quite a good place for it. I've learned a lot about making friends here. It's not nearly as traumatic as Zack makes it seem; the party hats, noisemakers, and excessive quantities of alcohol really aren't required, and it seems much easier without them to me. So don't let him fool you.

I'd truly appreciate that. This evening when I return from work, perhaps?

[ooc: since they're no-bake cookies, I can't imagine anything Sephiroth could spectacularly screw up during the making of them. XDDD Want to take it as read that they had a training session some time?]

Well. City of second chances, right? Well, I'm officially your friend, and you didn't need any of those things, did you? ♥ I'm not one to be easily fooled, either. So I think I'm safe from this 'Zack' person you speak of.

Of course. We'll make some for everyone.

It certainly is at that. Zack's not really dangerous, just very excitable and enthusiastic. Rather like a very tall and strong and bouncy puppy. ...With opposable thumbs that let him get into the kind of trouble puppies only dream of. ...On the other hand, he doesn't lick people's faces, which is certainly an improvement over most puppies of my own acquaintance... anyway.

That sounds lovely. Thank you again.

Really? Thank you! ...Perhaps this could be one of those family bonding sorts of moments the sociologists were speaking of?

You're quite welcome, though there's no need to give thanks. It's what families do, or so I've been told.

Er, of course. I think that it would be one of those moments exactly.

Good! It's always good to find out more about how these things ought to be done.

Of course, I think we've done fairly well for guessing in the dark, considering the type of handicaps we're both working with.

But from the articles in those magazines, most social workers tend to take a dim view of that sort of parenting, and I'd hate to do something badly and have them take our family apart...

Indeed.

Well, if we ever need help figuring out some of this family business, I'm sure that Yumi would be a good person to ask. She has a younger brother, and is one of the only students at Kadic who lives off-campus with her parents.

They... they couldn't really do that, could they? I mean, you can't just.. dismantle a family?
