All right. Breathing. Breathing is good. Working on it.
They sound like a couple of rash idiots with chips on their shoulders and a perpetual need to prove whose equipment is better hung. But those are also the types of rash idiots who take glee in others' pain.
You've met them both, I think -- the dark-haired boy's alter ego and the redhead with the attitude worse than Reno's after a hangover. They didn't sound as though they were immediately serious, more as though they were blowing off steam and trying to impress each other -- but then they met each other, and I'm worried that they may egg each other on to the point where they become serious. From the conversation in their journals, neither of them seemed much interested in rationality, mostly in throwing insults.
Can we simply lock them up based on public threats against public safety? Back home, we would simply have sent the Turks after them and had them vanish into Hojo's lab, but someone tried to explain something about this thing called 'habeas corpus' to me. It seems to

If we're both agreed that they could pose serious harm, let's bring them in to cool their heels for a bit. We should consider where we could safely store them, though. It may be like attempting to incarcerate a Soldier with an assortment of unknown materia that can't be unequipped -- the redhead spoke as though he's accustomed to being able to devastate landscapes at will. Actually, he reminds me disturbingly of the half-mad god-wannabe that I entrapped in a summons materia some months ago.
...You may need to hit me already. She asked me to come meet her to talk about Jenova, and I went to Reno's apartment. ...oh gods. And I walked head-first into it. But... I thought it was Shelke; I didn't know at that point that Jenova could literally manipulate her already. I... don't feel any different...Tell her that I sent you so that she wouldn't be lonely? Or that Reno is getting you up to speed on the procedures around here; he's been on the patrol staff for months, and he knows most of what there is to know about the video surveillance

All right. There's gotta be some place around here that's safe, yeah? I mean, Lumiere brings everyone in, so it would only be logical that the government be prepared for whatever bad it brings in, as well. Is there anyone you can ask about it? From the way the kid's talking, he definitely isn't a human. Not sure what he is, though...
... oh, Seph. You gotta be more careful than that, all right? Underestimating Jenova is never a good idea and we both know she'll do whatever she has to in order to get to you.
I'll tell her that I'm hanging around to learn the ropes from Reno. The Turk isn't gonna have any complaints about that, is he?
I have remarkably little contact with the higher levels of government; most of my orders are written. But I'll see what I can do. [ooc: don't want to add anything to Lucrece's stress load, so we might just do handwavium to find something resembling an angel-proof cell? Asked Balthier if he might be willing to take a look as an engineer too.]
I know. I'm sorry. I just... hadn't realized the extent of Shelke's ...problem.
If Reno has any complaints, tell him to talk to me. I'm sure some combination of alcohol, cigarettes, and selective intimidation can be used in the process of persuasion.
Thank you. Thank you so much. I don't think I could have handled this without you.
I certainly couldn't have spoken with Aerith about Jenova before we've even properly met again and I've had a chance to ...something between 'apologize' and 'grovel'.
If... something goes wrong, if Jenova...
...please believe me that you and Cloud are the two most precious people in the world to me, and that I love you both, and if... if I lose again... I'm sorry. Do whatever you need to.
...I'll just have to make damn sure that I don't lose again.
... don't you dare lose again, Seph. And don't even consider the possibility anymore, all right? Last time, you had to deal with her on your own, but this time won't be the same. I'm right here with you, every step of the way, and I'm not gonna lose you again.
It was never your fault. I take responsibility for my actions.
She was an exceptionally heavy-handed influence, but if I hadn't been so furious with Hojo's horrible experiments and the President's mindless powermongering and the futility of the Wutai war and the horrible short-sightedness of the Mako reactors burning the life from the Planet, and even Avalanche's thirty years of one explosion at a time that never did enough to shake the Shinra grasp on power, She wouldn't have found me so willing to believe that the world needed reforming from the razed ground up.
You tried. I seem to recall first insulting your loyalty, then walking away, then burning away the world until you no longer recognized me as myself.
From your perspective, it's no surprise that you felt it necessary to lift your sword against me. If I'd been in your place, and I'd seen you behaving the way I had been, I doubt I would have come up with a different solution in the grip of that much fear and concern and bewilderment.
I can't imagine what you could have been in Jenova's grasp. It's just ...unthinkable. It's no surprise that you were just as horrified by what I had become.
...and in any case, it's long since over with. Let's just do our best to make sure neither of us has to face that again.

Shall do, sir. I already left him a note, telling him he could expect me. ♥

... none of that erases the fact that I turned my back on you, Seph.

Let's agree to disagree on some things, all right?
And let's definitely make sure there's no repeat.
