When I moved to KC, it was to work at Sprint as a contractor on SS7 portability. My boss at Sprint was Robert L Smith, but everyone just called him Bob. Being a big guy like myself, Bob and I hit it off immediately. We had a lot of common interests: Science fiction, computers, telecomm, ham radio, Pizza, etc. He became one of my closest friends and remained that way until he moved out of the KC area about 7 years ago, at which time we started to grow apart.
I just learned this afternoon that Bob died on July 30th while visiting his daughter. I have no information on how or why, just that he's passed and that he was cremated and his remains scattered.
I've only spoken to Bob a couple of times this year and we were really looking forward to meeting up towards Thanks Giving when he was planning on being in KC again. Now that won't happen.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to see you again, buddy.
