TIMELINE MAKES NO SENSE.

Or: Slade's Timeline Revisited! Again.

Okay. So Slade was sixteen when he fought in Korea. He had to have been born in the mid-thirties, probably somewhere around 1935.

Guess what? Wintergreen was born in 1930. Because when he was eight, World War II was a year away, and WWII for Britain started in 1939.

I don't think their ages were thought through very well... especially since, dear canon, you ALSO tell me that there is a twelve-year age difference between them. Whut.

(Wintergreen says, in a throwaway line, that he thinks of Slade as being kinda like a son. [BULL.] Slade says, in another throwaway line, that Wintergreen was like a father and a friend. [More bull.] *hums the 'Isn't this always the way things are? Between fathers and sons?' song with the chorus of 'Sticky and hot'* Seriously, dude, put a bit more mathematically-provable age difference between them if you want me to buy that father-son schtick, and also stop having Slade's wife tell Wintergreen that she never loved Slade like he did. Also don't have one of Slade's lovers tell him that if she didn't know the two of them better, she'd think they were gay.

Yes, that is pretty much a direct quote. Issue fifty-eight.)

And then comes Camp Washington. And also Vietnam.

DEATHSTROKE 30 is set in 1993. A few issues earlier, Slade was thinking about Grant and Joey. We'll set that issue in 1992.

Grant was born twenty-one years earlier. So, in 1971. Grant was born the day Slade landed in Vietnam.

Joey was almost one when Grant was three, so Joey was born in 1973 or 1974. When Joey was a week old, Wintergreen was captured by the Viet Cong. Okay, that works with the timeline of the Vietnam conflict.

Somewhere in those years between Grant and Joey, Slade was pulled from the Vietnam conflict for his infamous experiment. It took months for him to recover. He was, in fact, pulled from active duty because of this experiment. By the time Wintergreen was captured, Slade had perfect control over his new abilities.

But Slade was in Vietnam long enough to be captured and taken down the Ho Chi Minh trail. And he was in Angola in '74, as was Wintergreen; strong implications that they were there because they were both military.

(While we're here discussing timelines for Slade's kids, Rose shows up first in DEATHSTROKE 15. She's eight, max, because Slade went to Cambodia to rescue Sweet Lili and she's only been out of Cambodia for eight years. Well, she *might* be nine. Rose was conceived when Slade got Lili out of Cambodia. We'll say that issue was set in... hrn, probably '92, so the earliest Rose could have been born is '84 or '83. And yet the whole point of *going* to Cambodia to rescue Lili was to save her from the Khmer Rouge in power, which regime ended in 1979.

Um. Timeline, people! I understand time crunch and all, but please please *please* take into account real-world timelines before you start tossing years about.)

So just how long did Camp Washington last? How old *is* Adeline, anyway? How old is Joey compared to Dick? How long was Slade in Vietnam -- was he, for example, there for the My Lai massacre? He had something kinda like that in Korea, I know.

And while we're at it, was the man Marine or Army?!?

rose, wintergreen, meta, whine, slade
