Title: Tangled sleeve of care
Summary: You learn a lot sometimes, watching somebody while they're sleeping.
Author's Notes:
Pat Trayce was one of Slade's many lovers; she used to be a cop, then her partner died. She went to Slade for training to be the next Vigilante. As far as I know, she's still alive. She also might be the woman Slade's come closest to loving since Adeline.

Her muscles haven't been this sore since the first week of training for the force. She can't sleep, either. She hurts too much, worked right down to the bone.
But she can watch Slade sleep, silent and mostly unmoving. She's a little amused that every time she shifts on the bed he half-wakes, and it takes ten minutes of utter stillness -- shallow, shallow breathing, the kind you do on the stakeouts where people die if you fuck up -- for him to go back to sleep.
And not amused at all about... everybody has quirks, but it's a little scary. This man who's training her, who's now her lover, the one she thinks she might be in love with. His hand slightly curled, as though gripping something, and trigger finger tightening, then relaxing, then tightening again.
When he's done training her, will she be someone who kills in her dreams?
