Title: The kindness of strangers
Summary: Dick is grateful, even though he knows he shouldn't be.
Author's Notes: Based on Marcelo's
Othersideverse. Will not be understandable without said stories. Written with permission.
Every year since he was nine years old, Dick sets aside a minute, plus a minute for every extra year his parents got, to think about the guy who saved the Flying Graysons.
One year, when he turned eighteen, Dick took a vacation to Gotham.
To Arkham.
The guards there now are pretty much just for show, if everything Dick's heard is right. Swallows and goes in, passing the white, silent, empty cells.
The only color Dick can see in the entire asylum is the Flying Graysons poster on Bruce Wayne's wall. Dick swallows. "I... hi."
Serene face and calm blue eyes. "Hello." And a soft, nearly affectionate smile that makes Dick twitch.
I watched you kill two men, he doesn't say. You saved my parents' lives, he doesn't say.
"Thank you," he says.
