*jumps on the Devin Grayson bandwagon*

So I've been thinking about this post for a couple days, and the recent Devin links on WFA got me to decide to make it.

Caveat: I have not read Inheritance, to my great sorrow and despair, and thus will not be discussing it. I have read Devin's run on both NIGHTWING and GOTHAM KNIGHTS ( Read more... )

Man, I just... I am totally baffled by people who say she didn't understand Dick's character. Bzuh? Wha?

Also, any writer who says this rocks my socks. Devin, thank you for giving me more reasons to love you.

UGO: You were attracted to comics through Batman, you work on the Bat-books and with those characters regularly, so I have to ask: Is there any character in the Bat-books that you don't like? Anyone who you feel is surplus to requirements and dislike working with?

DG: Yeah, I can think of one. Okay, two. There are two characters who feel tacked-on and incongruent to me, but they're not major players, and I have so far successfully avoided them with the possible exception of brief stints in crossovers. Oh, okay, and there's one who's sort of out of mainstream continuity now and hopefully will be left there. But I adore the whole core cast, and really, there are people in my core circle of friends that I don't like that much, either - you just nod politely and stay out of their way. You do not write them in such a way as to make them look stupid, you do not kill them just because you can't think of anything to do with them, and you do not interfere with their trajectory outside of your own books. You just also don't accept assignments that feature them prominently.

UGO: Sounds like healthy logic. Am I going to get any names?

DG: What, and deprive my biographer the joy of going through every comic I've ever written and trying to figure out who I mean? Actually, I wouldn't mind telling you, but to me it sort of falls under "Who the hell cares which fictional beings Devin doesn't like?" It just seems unprofessional to rag on characters - after all, they never say anything mean about us! Besides, I might change my mind someday and see something in them I hadn't seen before.

She's being professional and smart and good. Oh, DEVIN. *heart*
