England Update

Hmm... What to write about?

I'm having a really good time. I've made more friends here at UEA in a matter of days than I ever had at BG in a matter of YEARS. Kinda sad, really.

I'm tackling the problem I put in my last post and wrestling it now. More on that as it develops.

I'm going to a con in London! I'm excited! :D It's a giant con of everythingness! Hopefully I'll get a costume together in time to be able to cosplay as Monkey D. Luffy. If not? Well, I'll be warmer but sadder. :(

Still haven't gotten my damn BOX!!!!!!111ONE!

British Cars.

I love them! Aside from the driving on the wrong side of the road bit, they tend to be so cute and small! I mean, just look at um!

Not only are the designs adorible, but they're practical, too! I wish that cars like the ones made by Citroen and Renault were available in the US, but alas, they are not! What's even more bizarre is I saw a Ford car a few days ago that fit the typical compact, cute European model. FORD! Why the hell isn't that model available in the US?! Because we're shortsighted WANKERS that's why.

This is where the rant begins. Feel free to ignore it. Most Americans do.

I think the American mentality on cars is completely bonkers, expecially if we're talking about dwindling petroleum resources and exploding population. The earth will NOT be able to support the American Way of Life for too much longer. By our Excesses now, we are creating a world of tomorrow with SERIOUS deficits. Our children will inheirit a polluted world with much of its resources depleted and abused. And why? Well the simple answer is Comfort.

I'm incredibly tall, and my whole family is, yet every christmas now, when it's time to drive 10 hours to Mississippi, we take the Prius. We took the Prius even back when we had a van (we no longer have anything bigger than a hatchback atm). At the end of the 10 hours I'm cramped as hell and my knees sometimes feel like they're killing me, but you know what? We filled up ONCE the entire trip. That feels like a bit of an accomplishment to me. Long term thinking over Comfort.

On the emergence of the Smart Car; Practicality over Comfort

People (mostly americans) look at the Smart Cars and say "What the hell? You're gonna be cramped as hell after spending an hour in that!" Well, the Smart Car isn't INTENDED for cross country travel, dumbass. It's intended for City Living, and MOST of the population of the world lives in Cities, so it's intended for the Majority. It is perfect for short trips to the store, to work, or across town. Short trips that really add up in gas money and emissions when you're talking about driving a car that gets, say, 15-20 miles per gallon as opposed to the Smart Car's 50-60 MPG.

What's up with the SUV in the city? I honestly don't get it. For country bumpkins driving through mud and other weather conditions, I see the need (at least for things like the Escape or the smaller jeeps or a truck, if not for things like the Escalade and Hummer) but for city slickers? Why does a soccer mom need a Suburban? Why does a teen from the suburbs need a Ford F-150?

And that's my rant. I'm gonna go take a shower now.
