i got paid today!
♫ Yup, 3rd paycheck on the job so far. This is so exciting, I've never had this much money in my bank account before.
♫ I forgot to mention my job in my last post: I'm working in a neuro/bio lab at the cancer center in Houston (officially, the department I'm in is Experimental Radiation Oncology, which sounds really impressive). The PI is a radiation oncologist interested in side effects of radiation on cognition, especially in kids. Basically I mix chemicals and try to do Western blots (and fail at that, mostly), I also do behavioral stuff with mice and some neuron imaging. The neuron imaging is nice because the images take so long to do that I set my laptop up next to the microscope and watch movies/TV while I wait. I've gone through a lot of my old movies already, so I've been rewatching Legend of Korra, and it's been lots of fun (though I remembered why I hate love triangles so much :\).
♫ And speaking of Korra! The trailer for season 2 was released at SDCC yesterday! It looks *beautiful.* Whether it'll be like last season remains to be seen, but I'm optimistic. I think now that Bryke knows they have more seasons, they won't try to rush the story as much. I just really, really hope that we get some serious character development, especially with Bolin & Asami.
♫ SDCC has basically just been giving me so much fandom-y goodness that I'm really, really upset I can't be there. (I've lamented this fact multiple times on Twitter already.) There was a Young Justice meetup today, an Agents of Shield panel (and pilot screening!!), a Game of Thrones panel, a Korra panel (1st episode of season 2 was shown, but it's not online yet why asd;fkjsdf), and also a TEEN WOLF PANEL OH MY GOD.
♫ OH MY GOD THE TRAILER FOR THE REST OF SEASON 3A I JUST CAN'T. I REALLY CAN'T.
♫ I was going to post the video but the original one from ohnotheydidnt has been taken down and I don't really feel like searching for another one right now, but it's probably on Tumblr somewhere.
♫ Either way, the next 5 episodes all seem really intense. I have high hopes, despite the WTF fail of last week's episode. (Seriously, Jeff? Killing off all your PoC and women? Yeah, Gage leaving was contractual, but I'm not sure Sinqua's really was? No one really knows what's going on with him and Once Upon a Time, so... It just doesn't sit well with me. I love Isaac as much as the next fangirl, but he's just been so disproportionately developed compared to the other two. Boyd seemed expendable from the beginning, which makes me even more disappointed.) And I thought it was a decently fun/good episode up until the end. Adorable Scisaac moments, some amusing Stiles and Lydia scenes, cute Scallison (I wasn't interested in them in the beginning, but I like them in the we-have-a-history kind of way). And Danny! Doing non-sexuality related things! But then...sigh. Of course, the episode was never going to top Motel California in terms of aklsd;ksjd;fj;dlkfj;al;dfjl;asjd FEELS, but still.
♫ Funnily enough, it's the first time I've felt remotely bad for Derek. Oops.
♫ ANYWAYS. About the rest of the season. I'm actually not that excited for Monday's episode because...well, I don't care that much about Derek. I want to know about the werewolf eye color stuff, but the trailer makes it look like there was a girl in Derek's life *before* Kate, and that just doesn't make sense to me. What I'm psyched about it episode 9 because WE GET TO FIND OUT ABOUT LYDIA. Also I think episode 10 is Jeff's "Diehard in a hospital" episode? So cue the McCall family feels and possibly Stilinski family feels.
♫ ALSO IT'S TERRIBLE THAT I'M EXCITED FOR ALL THE STILES CRYING/FREAKING OUT. I don't want him to cry or be sad but I also think that it's high time he cracked after we got that moment of vulnerability in 2x11, and I also know that Dylan will absolutely DESTROY EVERYONE in those scenes so I want to see that. Yes. Also I am weirdly excited for the Stydia kiss even though I very much do NOT ship it (I want them to be bros) because I feel like it's not a shippy kiss.
♫ Anyways, in similarly dorky but not SDCC-related news, I started watching the White Queen miniseries. I never finished the Philippa Gregory book, and I know she's not really a good author and whatnot (it was airport reading), but I just can't help it with period dramas? Plus there's all manner of pretty powerful ladies, so there's that.
♫ I don't really know what I'm doing for the rest of this weekend. Probably just reading Teen Wolf fic. I have to go to work for an hour tomorrow to start behavioral testing for the mice though. :\
