Film's obsession with violence against women kind of annoyed me. There was a similar argument on Feministing. Yes, violence against women is horrific; I'm not saying it's not. The article raised some very valid points. But articles that slate Grindhouse for this really get my goat.
Yes, there was a rapist character, but Cherry stabbed him in the eye and HIS PENIS FELL OFF. Yes, Kurt Russell spent the first half of Death Proof killing women, but DID YOU SEE THE SECOND HALF? They kicked his ass. Jesus. Men were violent. Women were violent. It was a violent film, get over it.
I freaking loved it. I can't decide if the best bit of film was the flash of Cherry's "leg" during the sex scene or Wray riding the iddy biddy red scooter.
What I am sad about is
the film being broken up in the UK. Which film will get the trailers? Will anybody bother to go and see Death Proof? How much money will it cost me to go and see each film eight bazillion times?
